What the Pup (WTP!) Part 1

by admin on July 6, 2011

Welcome folks!  There’s so much great information and knowledge to chew on regarding this subject!

So, I’m gonna  divide this blog in to several easy parts so we can enjoy the process of choosing and bringing home a puppy, breeders, shelters, supplies, trainers, vets. See what I’m talkn’ about?

This is a GI-NORMOUS topic.

I want to give you a few great bones to ”chew” on!

Part1, is going over the basics.  How to choose a pup that blends with your lifestyle and living arrangements, general health information, food and vet choices. Sounds easy?  Well, let’s “dig” into this part and see what you think.  If you think, I might have overlooked a “bone tip”. Zip me a comment and we can discuss your ideas.

1. There are loads of places to get your pup from: amateur and professional breeders, the local papers, the Internet, shelters. This can be a daunting task.

2. Take a look at your lifestyle, where and how you live before choosing your pup. Do you want a short or long haired kid, big, small or tiny 1. Runner or digger. Barker or hollower. Maybe a drooler. If you are neat person, some of these kids are not for you.

3. Do your research. Check the internet and narrow down your search. If you have allergies, maybe the poodle or similar breeds. Look in to the possible health issue down the road. Knowledge is power.

4. Size does matter! Make sure your living space can accommodate them and you.

5. Think about how much time you have for all the extras, like grooming, supplies that need to up ongoing; leashes, collars that they’re going to grow out of quickly. Can you afford these expenses?

6. Puppies require a lot of your extra time. Bonding, exercise and a feeding regiment.  They eat at least 3 times a day and need fresh water constantly.

7. Don’t skimp on the best food for your pup. You want to ensure a healthy dog with a great coat as they grow up. Is this something you can afford?

8. Puppies are so adorable, make the best decision for you and your family when they grow up to be dogs.
