“Tell Me Why!” Fun Facts Part II

by admin on May 4, 2011

I had so much fun with all of you the last time around, with Tell Me Why Fun Facts, that I thought we could cruise through some other, Tell Me Why Fun Facts, Part II together!

Here are a couple of good ones that you asked about:

A. Why Do Some People Look Like Their Dogs?

a). I own a pug, who I just adore. However, I really hope that I don’t look like Winston, whose tongue flops out of his mouth! Now, Zoe, my cockerpoo, I’ve been told we resemble each other. Birds of a feather?  Perhaps.  We do choose dogs that we have a connection with.  Be it consciously or unconsciously. So, I suppose, that “like” does attract “like”. I can see myself in Zoe. Do you see yourself in your dog?

B. Why Does My Dog Yawn All The Time?

b). Tired? Perhaps. However, yawning is a sign of stress too. If your dog is getting trained, they might yawn after that experience. They are trying to learn new values, and this is stressful.  If you see your dog yawning excessively, you can provide them with a place to Zen out and rest.

C. Why Does My Dog Dig Around In My Bed and Turn In Circles?

c). I like to call this nesting. You see them building blankets all around themselves and making their own bed. We’ve all seen our dogs do this behavior. Nothing new here. Think of this behavior for  them much like us fluffing our own pillows.

D. OK, What Does It Mean, When My Dog Sniffs Crotches? It Happens.

d). “Well, hello there gorgeous”, they’re saying.  Dogs have uber sensitve sniffers. Think of this as their search and discover mission.  They are associating your smell to you, as they say: “High 5 dude, lookin’ good, I remember you.”

E. Why Does My Dog Drink Rainwater In Lieu of Fresh Water?

e). Minerals, my friend. Rainwater, has minerals that purified water just doesn’t have.

F. Why Does My Dog Cock Its Head?

f). Just so you know, there are many answers to this question. The Best answer is, “I like to think that my dog understands me.”  Well, that’s partially true. They do understand parts of our language, but not that clearly. They are better adept at understanding our body language, eye contact and the tone of our voice. I’ve found that woman, have a more melodic sound to their voice and that makes the dog cock its head, in an understanding fashion.

I am sure more studies will be done on all of these questions.

Did you ever notice that dogs take on the personalities of their person. BEWARE PEOPLE…… If I spend very much time around your dog” especially Pugs” I’ll know more about you than you may want me to know. LOL
