Let me Lend you a Helping Paw when choosing a Boarding Facility! Pt. 2

by admin on October 26, 2011

I wrote a blog about Let me Lend you a Helping Paw when choosing a Boarding Facility!  Well here is part 2.

You can’t short cut the system that are already in placed by each boarding facility. Many have to report their criteria to their insurance carriers.  So be prepared to spend some time to avoid making a panic choice or not having all your paperwork handy.

Ready for part 2?  Well, look no further than right below.

4. Vaccine records are a must.  In California we require all vaccines to include Bordetella every 6 months.  That’s the rule.  You have issues with that, have your vet write a note on their stationary, explaining your issues with Bordetella.  This takes the liability off of the facility and places it right back on you.  Know that if your dog gets Bordetella, they will be taken out of that environment and kept isolated.  Bordetella is airborne and even with the vaccine, your dog can still get kennel cough. Say what?  YUP, it happens and it’s helpful for you and the facility you choose to be aware of that.

5. Typically, clients will have to complete a comprehensive questionnaire for whatever facility they choose.  Read the paperwork and the terms and conditions. Know if there are hidden fees, late charges for late pick ups, etc. Know the operating hours and don’t ask them for exceptions.

6. Provide your chosen facility with a feeding card and medication card to accompany all pets.  Helpful hint. Don’t say “we feed Fido a handful of dog food.” Be specific. There are many hands in your kid’s bag. Someone elses’ handful is going to be different from your handful. If it’s 3/4 of a cup, then say 3/4 of a cup. The more specific you are, the more likely it is that your dog will get exactly what it needs.

7. Be kind to the folks that take care of your kids. “Thank You” goes a long way.

These are just a few helpful dog bones to chew on.  Send me some of your helpful hints too, www.chaisnpets.com
