Does My Dog Really Get Me?

by admin on January 4, 2011

YES! Of course they do!  This is just my opinion, but I feel pretty confident with my answer. I’m not only a dog owner, but I  have also own a doggy daycare and boarding company for over 10 years and is still going strong.  For those of you, who have dogs or pups, you know they get you.  Many of you have told me so.  They pick up on every little nuance from us.  If you are in tune with your dog, your dog is in tune with you.

Let’s say you’re not feeling 100%.  Just looking down at them, you know they know how you feel. There is a look in their eyes, a wag of their tails, a tilt of their heads, that lets you know….I totally get you!

If you are a dog owner, or had a dog in the past, you  already know that your pal gets you.  We’ve all heard the story about  the dog that hated the boyfriend.  It could be said that she probably should have listened to that little 4 legged voice of reason.

I know these kids are so smart!  I know, you guys already know that too.  They know when their parent is coming to get them.   They wait by the gate, tails wagging, eager to get on with their world at home. Yup, that’s right!  The bond between you and your dog is so strong. They Get You Alright!

Have you ever wondered how you ever got along without them in your life?  Well, you must know by now, that they chose you. I bet, if you sat down and really thought about how Doris became a part of your family, you have realized now, that she chose you.  You might have had your heart set on a completely different dog, but ended up with Doris. “ Hmmm, how the heck did that happen? Oh, yes, now I remember, Doris, just called to me.”  That happens all the time.

I have thought to myself, “Geez, I wish some one really understood the day I had!  Ah, some one already does.”  I have even asked them: “Hey, look, does my bum look too big in these jeans?” Sad but very true.  They Get Me.

For all of us that have dogs, we are lucky.  For all our friends, who await the moment when Doris chooses them, we applaud you for your patience. Yes in deed folks, Your Dog Does Get You.

I would love to hear from you, zip me a comment or 2 below, it’s so easy to do!

Thanks Alanna for this amazing post. It is so true. Your pet is a family member. They can sense how you are , what you are experiencing. They are just as playful or crabby as any roommate or family member. A bond develops. Keep em coming Alanna. Thanks!

Loved the blog! Kona and our family were totally in sync! She even knew the minute each week my sister appeared at our door! She always knew when it was Tuesday at 11 and was eagerly waiting by the door. Thanks for talking today. I’m ready to have that connection again!

So true what you wrote in this article, baby and I were so in sync it was as if we read each others minds, and since her passing I think one of the reasons I am being so reluctant but wanting also to get a new baby is that I am afraid I wont have that same connection that I had with baby.

Thanks for writing this
Shelly :)

I’ve never looked at it that way before but I think you’re right about my dog and me being meant to be. I bred her myself and despite lots of socialisation and lots and lots of love she is a dog with problems that I can only assume she was born with. My other two Border terriers are calm and well-adjusted but she is a nervy jumpy unpredictable box of tricks!
No one understands her but me and we really do fit each other like gloves and we can both anticipate each other’s next move. I wonder if she would have found this had I chosen another of the litter to keep and not my precious baby Mabel!

Hi Rachael! We both work with dogs and love them dearly. I have to say, owning 3 kids, who are all different. All 3 came from different areas and came to me at different parts of my life. I thought I chose all 3. I really did. I came to find out, I didn’t. They all made themselves very available to me. If they hadn’t opened up their little hearts to me, I don’t think I can honestly say, I would have seen them! I understand my kids so initmately. And in return, they really get me, just like your baby gets you. You nailed it when you said you both fit, like gloves. Well said!
