7 Important Tips to know in case of an emergency with your pet

by admin on November 6, 2012

I keep a file handy with my dog’s information in it: shots, vet visits, food information, medications, etc. In case I do have an emergency, I can take my file with me to the vet or call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435), immediately. Note, that fees may apply.

Keep organized.  Keep calm. Here are 7 tips for you.

1.  Have your vet’s number in an easy place: you cell phone, your dog’s file.

2.  Have a 24 hour emergency vets number.  There are plenty to choose from in your area.

3.  Know how to get to the emergency clinic. Download the directions and keep them in your files.

4.  Have the ASPCA’s number in a handy place.  (888-426-4435), know that fees may apply here.

5.  Know CPR.  You can youtube this information, get a book or pamphlet to learn how to perform CPR, if needed.

6.  Learn how to stop bleeding from a gash by applying basic pressure wraps. Get your learn on.

7.  Learn how to muzzle your pet to keep them from biting you.  Ask your vet for the best muzzle that’s the correct size for your pet.
